The ReNumber Areas Sequentially tool of the ReNumbers tool group in the Project Refinement toolset can help renumber areas one by one following a numbering pattern such as Start Number, Increment and even Prefix/Suffix.
When the ribbon button is clicked, the following window will appear.
Approach #1: One by One
If this approach is chosen and the Start button is pressed, the cursor focus will be set back to the Revit model area. Areas can be clicked one by one so that their numbers will be changed accordingly. In the above sample and screenshot, the Start Number was originally set as 201 and the aea picking order was Dry Storage, Conference, Electrical, Office and now it came to the Admin but the left mouse key had not being pressed down yet.
If any area is wrongly clicked thus wrongly numbered or mind is changed right away, no problem at all. Users can simply reset the Start Number for the currrent area of concern and continue numbering for remaining. After all areas on a floor have been renumbered successfully, we can click the Finish button, switch to another floor such as #3, reset the Start Number as 301 for example, click the Start again to start another numbering process.
Approach #2: Along a Path
If this approach is chosen and the Start button is pressed, the cursor focus will be set back to the Revit model area. This time, the tool asks for a path, which can be composed of many connected segments if necessary.
In the above sample, the path is defined as the blue line indicates, through the original areas from 132 to 106. If the path is defined over, the Finish button on the same dialog can be clicked to let the tool know. After that, the tool will renumber all areas that intercepts with the path according to the numbering pattern and following the path direction.
The same process can be easily repeated for other series of area numbers or even on different floors.
