The Family Files tools of Revit Family Organizer have the following commands.

Panel_FamilyFiles

The Explorer  command is to explore Revit family files on disk. It has a UI as follows.

FF_Explorer

The top is a toolbar that contains a few command buttons. The bottom is a status bar. The left pane displays the family folder structure and a Find window. The Find window can be rolled up or down. The family folder structure window has three buttons that can expand, collapse or refresh family folders. The right pane displays family files if any in the current highlighted family folder. Each family file has a check box which can be checked so as to be handled by Revit later. If the file name of a family file is too long, the mouse cursor can be hovered over the truncated name to make the full name appear as a tooltip.

Buttons from left to right on top:

  • History: Show the history of family file root folders and set one as current.
  • Locator: Locate a new family file root folder.
  • Toggle View: Toggle the family item view between Thumbnails and Details.
  • Window Explorer: Open the current folder in a Windows Explorer.
  • Rename: Rename the highlighted (not selected) family item.
  • Cut: Cut selected family items into the Windows clipboard.
  • Copy: Copy selected family items into the Windows clipboard.
  • Paste: Paste cut or copied family items to the current folder.
  • Delete: Delete the selected family items.
  • Clean: Clean up Revit Auto-Backup files such as name.0002.rfa.
  • Settings: Display the Setting dialog for the tool.
  • Log: Show the log file if any.
  • Help: Open the help page.
  • About: Launch the About dialog of the tool.

A lot of other nice features are not obvious from the UI, e.g. family file items can be drag and dropped from one folder to another. There are some more commands in the context menu of the family file item view besides the Thumbnail View and the Details View which can also be done by the Toggle View button.

All of these can be exercised in the free trail edition of Revit Family Organizer.
