After some family files are selected with the help of the Explorer command of Family Files tools of Revit Family Organizer. We can load them into the current Revit model either project or family or even template. After the Load into Current Model command in the Family Files toolset is called up, the following Revit File Selector dialog will show up to filter the selected family files further.

FF_LoadIntoCurModel_1_Choose

The first X column can be used to remove some files from the selection. If they all look good, the OK (with a green check mark) button can be pressed to proceed, loading the family files into the current model, either project, family, or even template. If the pre-selected family files are not as expected or mind changes at this moment, the Cancel (with a red cross sign) button can be clicked to quit the dialog without doing anything.

If everything goes well, a message box like the following will be popped up to report the good news.

FF_LoadIntoCurModel_2_Info

Otherwise, some similar message like the following may show up instead.

FF_LoadIntoCurModel_2_Info2

By the way, only newer family files with Revit version equal to or lower than the current Revit can overwrite existing loaded families in the current model in this case. If family files with Revit version are lower, the command will upgrade the family files automatically; if higher however, they will be simply skipped. That is what the 'not allowed' words indicate.  It is also what Revit family loading mechanism behaves. In case some loaded families have to be overwritten anyway with even older external family files, the Updater command in the same Family Files toolset can come to rescue.

Something more is going behind the scene. If the family files are newer than loaded ones, we can choose whether to overwrite existing instances and/or overwrite parameter values. The settings can be found from the Settings for Family Files Tools command. They apply to the Updater command as well.

All of these can be exercised in the free trail edition of Revit Family Organizer.
