All buttons of the Family Model tools will be enabled only when a family model is made current in the Revit window.
The Material Importer in the Material Organizer command group of Family Model tools of Revit Family Organizer allows users to import all materials from some external Revit family files (most likely family templates) to the current family model that is open in Revit.
Some Revit family files need to be picked first.
After the OK button (with a green check mark) is pressed, all materials in the selected and chosen family (template) files will be imported into the current family model.
In fact, a lot of things are going on during the process, and can be in many different ways, which can be controlled by a simple setting in the single Settings command/dialog of the same Family Model tools.
When materials being copied, transported, exported, or imported, four options are available as can be seen above.
- KeepExistingifNameConflictsDuringCopying: keeps the existing material if the name already exists.
- OverwriteExistingifNameConflictsDuringCopying: overwrites the existing material if the name already exists.
- RenameExistingifNameConflictsDuringCopying: renames the existing material if the name already exists, based on the suffix as given.
- GiveNewNameExistingifNameConflictsDuringCopying: gives a new name to the new copied material if the name already exists, based on the suffix as given.
All of these can be exercised in the free trail edition of Revit Family Organizer.
